Q: What is tokusatsu? Tokusatsu is a Japanese term use to describe movies and TV shows that use any sort of special effects, though the term is typically associated with the "guy-in-rubber-suit-fights-other-guy-in-rubber-suit-in-a-scaled-down-city-model-in-a-studio" variety. Q: What classifies as tokusatsu? Shows like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai (and its international counterpart, Power Rangers) and Metal Heroes fall into this category. For film, you have Gamera, Godzilla, and to some extent, Pacific Rim. ----- Discuss the tokusatsu genre in this thread.
I've never been much into the shows, but I played a lot of The Wonderful 101. and from what a friend a friend was telling me it very strongly follows Tokusatsu story telling.
