I found this too interesting not to throw around a little. Why not? The movie wants you to think about it and it's plot and it's big ol' themes so why not actually attempt to discuss them. This was an interesting, if kinda quick, take on stuff. I come down more in favour that it's not racist but definitely muddled. It's heart is in the right place. I would consider it arguably difficult to condemn anything for being hateful when it tries so, so, so hard to be a positive movie. I agree with them here: it's all kinds of muddled and weird if you really dig deep. It's good for getting you to think about the themes it presents but not to actively apply the situations. It works within it's own universe, kinda, and still makes for a really enjoyable movie. Though, my stance on the movie pulling me right out of it in several parts because it strains so hard to be relevant to our world today still stands. Crappy kids acting crappy feels so harshly destructive to my emersion. Thoughts?
Really? I was almost certain that the basic overarching message of Zootopia was "Welcome to the furry fandom."
I'll admit there are references to past events with officers. Racism is actively demonstrated in the movie, but it's done in way that mirrors our society in those ways without talking down to us. I don't think the movie as a whole is intentionally racist. I think it's merely pointing out the faults of society in a way that's very stubble while also making funny jokes and references to add some humor to the serious situation. Though the one joke they could of toned down on more was the rabbit reproduction jokes sprinkled throughout the movie. Now this was questionable for sure. I dought a lot younger children will get the Breaking Bad joke that was placed in this point in the movie. This was obviously meant to older audiences to laugh at. Now I know that it's commonly known that most of the money made was from furries, but it's also from families and maybe others who maybe curious about the flick. At least it's better received than Shawn the Sheep was around here, which is unfortunate. Shawn the Sheep is a very fun and funny movie.
I agree, Shawn the Sheep is awesome. And I concur that the movie isn't Racist, really. You can be offencive but I haven't seen anyone really bothered by this movie. I will agree with the video that the message is a little muddled. It's not totally clear who they mean when they mention things but that appears intentional to ensure no one is hurt or stung by any messages. It's still a good movie but it is a unique thing to talk about.
Well, unlike most of America, I think my appreciation for the Shawn the Sheep movie came from my early exposure to Wallace and Grommet when I was in High School or grade school. I don't recall exactly, but part of the reason why was because my art class was doing a claymation project, and it so happened Wallace and Grommet was series that we were to see as an example. As for Zootopia, yeah. The movie can be pretty hit and miss with it's elements. There is a bit of that 'safety' about the movie that does detract a bit. While racial issues aren't underlined too hard, it's also seemingly water down and a bit too safe. I suppose that's what you would expect from a film meant for the whole family though. Though the jab at real life DMV workers has to be one of the funnest parts in the movie, even it did take it a bit over the line.
